Class Links Life Science Habitats Project Due Date: Monday, January 9, 2012 Our 3rd grade Science class has been studying habitats and how plants and animals are able to survive in each of them. Students are to choose 1 habitat and create a visual display of that habitat. Students should include in their displays: colorful and creative pictures, drawings, illustrations, and other props of what the habitat itself looks like, plants and animals that live there, and some facts (listed below) about their habitats. Students are encouraged to be as creative as possible and may use display items such as: a box or shoebox diorama, posterboard, cardboard, construction paper, or other items that will accurately display their chosen habitat. This project will count as a test grade and is due no later than JAN. 9. Students may use Chapter 2 in their Science books, internet, library books, or any other resource to help with their project. Habitats of study: • Hot Desert (example- Sahara Desert in Africa) • Cold Desert (example- Antarctica) • Grasslands/Plains (example- Serengeti Plain in Africa) • Rainforest (example- Amazon Rainforest in South America) • Temperate Forest (example- any woodland forest in North America) • Arctic Tundra (example- Denali National Park in Alaska) • Ocean Project Requirements: 1- A colorful, neat display of 1 habitat including what the habitat (surroundings/environment) looks like. 2- Pictures/illustrations or 3-D displays of at least 3 plants and 3 animals that live in the habitat 3- Information/facts needed for the project: Plants: name of each plant, adaptations for survival (parts that help it survive in the habitat) Animals: name of each animal, adaptations for survival (body parts and/or behaviors that help it survive in the habitat) Habitat: location of the habitat (continent and country), climate (weather), physical features (landforms, water,…) of the habitat If you have questions or concerns, please let Mrs. Frick know.
